QUAY CHIN HUAT - PARTNER

Mr Quay, aged 59, graduated from the University of London with an LL.B. (Honours) degree in 1989, and further obtained a post-graduate degree in Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the same university in 1993, specialising in corporate, insurance and shipping law. He was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, London in 1990.
Upon returning to Malaysia, Mr Quay chambered in SHEARN DELAMORE & CO and was admitted to practise as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in April 1995.
Mr Quay then practised as a litigation lawyer in ZAID IBRAHIM & CO, and thereafter as a conveyancing lawyer in KHAW & HUSSEIN (now KHAW & PARTNERS), predominantly in the areas of banking, commercial and conveyancing, including advising on a wide range of property transactions, developer’s responsibilities, properties financing and the standardisation of loan documents for banks and finance companies, including corporate loan/trade facilities.
Mr Quay also practised in RASHID & LEE as a corporate lawyer, with emphasis on commercial law and corporate law, including the drafting of all types of commercial contracts such as joint-ventures, project management, consultancy, shares sale and lease agreements, building and supply contracts and advisory work on a wide range of other related issues. He has also done a public listing exercise including conducting a legal due diligence audit.
Before entering the legal profession, Mr Quay spend more than 6 years in GENTING BERHAD (now RESORTS WORLD BERHAD) in audit, accounts and casino treasury division. Being an all rounder, and armed with accounting and auditing experience and having worked in private sector before have given Mr Quay the edge to analyse and solve business problems not solely from the legal perspective but, with a blend of commercial consideration.
